The past few weeks have been pretty darn exciting here post Subaru IMC. We came home to absolutely gorgeous weather. It was a huge effort limiting my bike rides to 2-2.5 hours that first week back but recovery after an Ironman is so important especially when I have the Subaru Muskoka 70.3 on September 14th. After an Ironman, it is so easy to overdo it. Ironman results in total body depletion and you sometimes don’t know how tired you really are until you push it. About 10 days out from IMC, I did my first proper swim workout with only 2000 meters of intervals which is much shorter than my usual IM training of about 3200-4000 meters of intervals. When I was done my short workout, my whole body – especially my arms, just ached which is pretty funny since my ‘arms’ really only swam hard for less than an hour 10 days earlier. It is just a little reminder that your whole body needs a bit of respect!
During one of my ‘fun and easy’ 2 hr rides last weekend, I got to see about 10 people riding their horses on Creditview Rd. in Caledon. I also saw about 20 hounds fox hunting with people on horseback. Every time I fantasize about moving closer to the city, Dave reminds me that there are no horses or fox hunting close to Lake Ontario. Seeing those beautiful horses and those feisty hounds made my ride one of the best ever!
A few neat feel good stories for you. First, at the Guelph Lake Triathlon, an athlete fell to the ground in the finishing shoot and was without vital signs. The Trisport team and medical support rushed to him and used all of their skills and equipment and were able to revive him! This is nothing short of a miracle. If he had of collapsed ‘dead’ anywhere else – at home, at work, anywhere else on the course – he would have died. This story should have made the front page of the newspaper – we need more happy endings like this one in our media!
And my mom lost her little tiny change purse in Penticton. In it, she had her special rosary blessed by the Pope and some identification. A week after she returned home, the RCMP phoned her and returned it to her. Absolutely beautiful!
Other than trying to recover from Ironman, I have been busy helping with some Subaru Muskoka 70.3 and spending a bit more time doing things around the house – making hamburgers, spaghetti and meatballs and banana bread. I don’t eat anything I make but it is healthy – extra lean ground beef, garlic, oats, etc! I am more of a fish and veggie person and that doesn’t require too much work. And there is a lot of dog walking which is truly my favorite thing to do!
Off for our pre-dinner dog walk – I am getting the stare down from Madison!
